Nine (9) Wet Flies from Ray Bergman’s “Trout” Published 1934 Solid Wood Framed & Mounted – Shadow Box 10″ x 7″ Classic Series #1 09/2024 These are classic wet flies from Ray Bergman first book, Trout, first release in 1938, which described and illustrated 636 flies. Additional information has been provided from Mary Orvis Marbury’s book, Favorite Flies and Their Stories, published 1892 as applicable. She is daughter of Charles F. Orvis. (Book Reference: RB – Ray Bergman; MOM = Mary Orvis Marbury). I ty these flies with the highest quality materials. Note that the hooks have a needle attached, avoiding glues that could disfigure the fly material and it is used to install the completed fly. Also, I will ship the following descriptions of these Classic Flies. Nine Classic Wet Flies: 1. Heckham Green – RB Plate #4, Page 478 materials. 2. Murray – RB Plate #6, Page 485 materials, and F Page 240 materials. 3. Alexandra – RB Plate #1, Page 470 materials. “This pattern was invented ny Dr. Hobbs a number of years ago, and it came into great favor with English fisherman. … This fly was originally named by General Gerald Goodlake “Lady of the the Lake”, but this name was afterwards abandoned in favor of Alexandra (In America)(MOM #36 on Plate E: Lake Flies, information page 95), 4. Bee – RB Plate #1, Pages 35 and 470 materials. “Imitations of bees of bees have been made since early times with no special restrictions as to materials, so each has chosen his own….was first made by C. F. Orvis.in 1878, for use in the streams west of the Mississippi River.” (MOM #98 on Plate M: Lake Flies, information page 223), 5. Black June – RB Plate #4, Page 40 and 479 materials. “..is an imitation of one of caddis flies appearing on the water the month of June. Its color isso much darker than the other flies of this order that it is called “black” and June from the time of its appearance. It seems especially goo in the mountain streams of New England States.” (MOM #96 on Plate M: Lake Flies, information page 223) 6. Adirondack – RB Plate #1, Page 470 materials. “The Adirondack is a fly that has been used for may years in the waters of northern New York, or the Adirondack region; hence its name.” MOM #89 on Plate M: Trout Flies, information page 223. 7. Laramie – RB Plate #5, and 482 materials. “Eight or nine years ago a fisherman living on Laramie City, Wyo., sent us a fly like the one in the plate, saying that it had no name, but has found it successful in that vicinity. We copied the fly, and in order to distinguish it and locate its usefulness called it the Laramie because it first came to us from that place. Since then it has been much used in the far West, and seens adapted to the streams of that section of the country.” MOM #171 on Plate R: Trout Flies, information page 319: 8. Howell – RB Plate #4 and page 479 materials. 9. Skookum – RB Plate #8 and page 491 materials. Skookim is a Chinook Jargon word that has historical use in the Pacific Northwest.
